The MUST (University Museum of Earth Sciences) houses a large number of fossil specimens, from the Roman countryside and found since the early 1900s. Large finds, such as the giant elephant Palaeoloxodon antiquus, have been the subject of much research over the past few years.
Taking advantage of its temporary closure for a total renovation, many of these finds have been restored using modern techniques of analysis and conservation.
Many of them, such as the Hippo (Hippopotamus antiquus), have been digitized through an optical scanner, not only to obtain a digital copy of the pre-restoration original, but also to obtain virtual content for future exhibitions and possible 3D prints.
Project has been carried out with the Sapienza Museum Pole for the University Museum of Earth Sciences (responsible Prof. Raffaele Sardella)
